80th Birthday Cake

My Nanna's 80th Birthday Cake

As much as I love making more modern and quirky looking cakes, this is the one
I am most excited about having had the opportunity to make.
I wanted to do something extra special  for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday this year.
For as long as I can remember my Nanna has had the most stunning floral gardens,
so I wanted to represent her love and passion for flowers on a cake.
When I embarked on making these flowers which was a first for me,
I was fortunate enough to recieve some private tuition on flower making from a
local Cake Decorator (Emma of Sugar and Slice Cakes in Canberra).
I am extremely grateful that I got this opportunity as it has been invaluable for my learning.
This is the first cake decorating class I have ever attended and Emma was a fantastic teacher.
Needless to say I am now completely hooked on making flowers and hope to learn even more in the future.

The flowers featuring in this cake include Peony's, Gardenia's, Hydrangeas, Rununculis, Blossoms,
Filler Flowers and Buds.  The Cake is a Chocolate Mud Cake.

We had a small family celebration at the Hyatt Hotel and got to indulge in High Tea
and the cake took centre stage at our table.
My Nanna was taken back by the cake and all those guests in surrounding tables
kept asking if the flowers were real.
That is the best compliment one could recieve.

Below is a taste of some of the lovely food we were presented with at the
Hyatt Hotel in Canberra for High Tea.  Yum! Yum!

Katie's Royal 40th Birthday Brunch

I had the pleasure recently of helping to plan, decorate and make the large cakes
for my sister inlaw Katie's 40th Birthday Party.
She celebrated her Birthday on the Queens Birthday with a brunch for 50
of her close friends and family.  I had so much fun with the color scheme she chose.
She decided to stick to the theme of the day with these lovely Royal colours of purple and red
and the beautiful crowns that featured throughout.

I made the Cake which is a rich Chocolate Mud Cake with Chocolate Ganache.
The large cake consists of a 9" and 7" tier.  The smaller cakes are dummy cakes 6" inches size.

I hand made all of the Pillow Boxes using Stampin Up's Die
and also the Scollop Punch for the lovely little Thank You tags.
Inside each of the Pillow Boxes was a beautiful Crown Bookmark for each of the woman that attended.
Then in addition each guest also received a Noodle Box with all of Katie's
favourite chocolates with beautiful Red and Purple wrappers.

My brother Jefferson made all of the lovely chocolate cupcakes and brunch foods....Yum!
I also made the Cake Picks to match those of the take home gifts.

Fresh flower arrangements on top of the cakes were made by "Flowers from the Garden - Dickson".
The crowns are from "The Little Big Company" in Melbourne.   http://www.tlbc.com.au/
The white glass cake stands are from "Sweet Style" online store Sydney.  http://www.sweetstyle.com.au/

Easter Treats Table 2012

This is the Easter Treats Table I put together for an Easter Brunch I recently hosted.
The children all went on an Easter Hunt for Bunny Money in the garden.
Once they had found all the Bunny Money they came to spend it on
lots of lovely treats to put in their special Easter Bags.
Choosing was the most fun part.
The milk cartons and pillow boxes are made from Stampin Up Dies.
The Plastic "Hop to it! Tubes are filled with Easter M&M's.
The Rabbits are all from Bed Bath & Table.
